FAQs

Answers to common questions

Can it be used offline?
Yes! It save guides directly to your device so you read them anywhere without a connection.
Can I sync my progress across multiple devices?
iCloud Drive Sync is built in natively and can be turned on in app settings to sync your library to your other devices with the same iCloud account.
How can I back up my library?
On your device you'll see a folder called "PocketCodex". That directory includes all of your stored games and guides so you can back up the entire folder to back up your library.
Which file types are supported for reading guides?
HTML, plain text (TXT), and PDF files can be imported and viewed.
Will it remember my place in each guide?
Yes, Pocket Codex automatically tracks progress per guide any time you close the guide or leave the app so you can pick up where you left off.
Can I add multiple guides to a game?
Yes each game can have multiple guides so you can do things like add walkthrough, the instruction manual and a series of html maps.
How about video guides?
You could technically add an HTML file with an embedded video player if you like but video integration is not a core focus of Pocket Codex. There are plenty of awesome services for that already =)
Is there an version available for Android?
I started with iOS as its the main device and OS that use each day. That said, another awesome retro gamer named rexmont has built an app for Android called Pixel Guide that you can download for free at https://github.com/rexmont/Pixel-Guide-Android. It's great and provides similar functionality for downloading and reading guides offline. I recommend their app for a similar experience to Pocket Codex on Android.
